Statement
Pilot Publishing 'Pilot Publishing' travels, runs workshops, maintains a library, publishes different kinds of material with all sorts of people.' We are looking for new hosts and destinations. We want to keep the project 'on the move' and flexible. Each publishing project that we do is different, evolving from the people we meet, the situation and local context. So the content determines the final outcome (ie it could be anything from a magazine, leaflet, poster, fanzine, comic to audio cd, film etc etc). Pilot Publishing was born out of 'Laburnum Pilot - a street magazine, made with people who live, work and pass through Laburnum Street' - a response to a commission by the Drawing Room, London. The 68 page magazine, illustrated entirely with drawings was launched during a street party on Laburnum Street. Laburnum Pilot was an experiment, a communication tool that encouraged a 'grass roots' attitude to publishing, as well as generated offshoot activities, events and new 'in street' networks. The making of the magazine became an event in itself where residents and passers by met each other, shared different ideas for content of the magazine and initiated live activities in the street and local area. Since then, Pilot Publishing has worked in different settings, making publishing projects with varied resources and time scales. Most recently we have returned to Laburnum Street to make a project for the second street party. Contact : Pilot Publishing, Amy Plant & Ella Gibbs laburnum_pilot@hotmail.com
