Geka Heinke

Nominated by: Susanne Neubauer
Born: 1967
Germany
Lives/works: Berlin, Germany

Statement
Heinke’s paintings question the relationship between space, abstraction
and gesture. Her approach generally stems from her examination of
Germany’s recent history, and her own emotional relationship with
objects that symbolize a specific cultural and social background. Recent
work include paintings of household items such as lamps and wallpaper,
as well as abstract patterns of architectural elements which she recasts
through her methodology into meditative form.
